Free hand sketching and then "painting" with pieces of fabric. This is in memoriam of a colleague who lost her life in a senseless terrorist attack in Mali in November 2015. There are images on her face that represent who she was. The words "Dhanya Karma Yogini" are in her hair, in addition to symbols of peace and all major religions. There are images of motherhood, feminist sayings and words describing her joyful attitude to life. There are images describing her Indian and American heritage, and feminist sayings as she was, in her own words "a feminine feminist". The ribbon women represents the women who are happy and healthy around the world thanks to her remarkable efforts to improve the lives of women and children around the world. The map in her hair represents all her traveling around the world. I hope this picture will bring smiles to all who knew her. Donated to Sunanda and Ashok Datar.

My next big discovery in my journey to understand myself and continue teaching myself art came around the age of 12 when I discovered portraiture. I focused on women mostly. I have strong trailblazing women in my family, who have overcome many adversities and succeeded in life and I wanted to capture them...
